I Have a Love Affair with my Mailbox: Simple Living in Practice

Yum

mailbox

I have a love affair with my mailbox. I walk down to it everyday excited by the prospect of party invitations and letters from long lost friends overseas. But like any fictional lover I am continually disappointed.

My mailbox never delivers the romance I so crave from it. Instead each day it fills me with junk.

I am determined this month to end this unfulfilling relationship and go paperless with all of my bills.

Today I am setting up a special email account just for bills, so I can keep my financial email separate from my personal email.

I have already put myself on a no junkmail list:

https://www.catalogchoice.org
http://www.dmachoice.org .

So hopefully it will be a short period of time before my mailbox is no longer full of empty promises....

Have you ended your relationship with your mailbox?

Why or why not?

How did you do it?

Why haven’t you done it?

  2. haha. very creative post Diane! I love my mailbox too much, even when it only delivers junk and bills. Maybe I should feed my mailbox a little more though, and then I'll get more out of it.
I have grand dreams of a very stylish and fun mailbox one day.

  3. Yes, I have ended my love affair with the mailbox! I apply to the opt-out mailing and phone list. It stopped all the junk and if I get junk I slap a big 'return to sender' or 'refuse' sticker on it. I keep my personal email separate from my blog email.

I always enjoy your posts! ! Paula

  4. I've been using catalogchoice for a few years now. Didn't know about dmachoice. I'll be checking that out because I still get junk! Going paperless with your bills and bill paying is a wonderful thing! It's really a time saver. Good luck!

    1. I just downloaded the app that Melissa the first comment suggested. It looks interesting because you can scan individual pieces of mail. Paper Karma app iPhone

  6. Martha Stewart Living October has an article on mail art. I was amazed at what the author has sent and received through the mail. Apparently the post office is obligated to sending something if it has a stamp and address on it.

Thanks for linking up at Motivation Monday!

  8. I have a romantic view of the mailbox too, but every once in a while I get a letter amongst all the bills etc and my faith is restored! I am not yet paperless with all my bills as I have a very old fashioned way of organising them, but I'm sure it won't be long till I give in!
