Dirt Cake: Happy Earth Day 2013! #Foodie Friday

Happy Earth Day! You can't have a celebration without a cake, right?

When my son was about 3 years old and I would say to him we are going to go to a party. He would reply, "Will there be cake? No, cake...no go!"
I couldn't really argue with him... I would say most of us in our hearts would agree.

Well, here is my version of a dirt cake. It is almost as much fun to make as it is to eat.

1 5 ounce bag of gummy worms

1) Preheat oven to time specified on cake mix directions. Grease a 9x12" baking dish.

2) Mix up cake mix according to directions.

3) In a food processor turn Oreo cookies to large crumbs.

4) Mix cookie crumbs and gummy worms with batter.

5) Pour mixture into baking dish. Make sure gummy worms are spread out.

  4. Thank you Diane for featuring me, but you have somehow linked the wrong photo to my site. My recipe would not work with these type of pickles. They are designed for pickle slices. Thanks.

  7. What a fun cake - and so appropriate for Earth Day! Having grown up eating cake at birthday parties, I remember being so shocked when my son went to his first birthday party (here in England). The cake was brought out with candles, taken away and sliced, wrapped up in napkins and put in the party bags. The kids were then served jello and ice cream. Of course, by the time we got the cake home the napkin was stuck to it, and we had to put the cake in the garbage (tears were shed!). It happened a kid's party after party, and I finally realised it was actually the way it was done here. Thankfully that tradition seems to be changing somewhat now. I never got used to the idea of not having cake and ice cream for dessert at birthday parties!

    1. Oh my, I have a niece and nephew growing up in London. I'll have to ask them about that. My son would not do well with this tradition.
