Seasons App: Eating Locally and Seasonally #Healthy Eating #Weekly Menu Plan

seasons app
Seasons app

I have been trying to eat more seasonally and locally and I have found the Seasons App extremely helpful. This app can be used in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe. Enter your location and it will tell you what fruits and vegetables are in season, by categories, by month. It has a search tool if you want to look up when an item is in season... and it can tell you were the closest farmer's market is located, all this for $1.99.

I found it to be a good investment. Eating seasonally and locally is more nutritious, less expensive, better for the environment and it sure reduces meal planning boredom.

Thanks to this app I have cooked vegetables that I had never heard of: celery root?... and explored new ways to cook rhubarb... along with being reminded to get certain fruits, like cherries, when they are at their peak of flavor.

It is really convenient when you are out shopping to be able to look up produce on your phone. There are several different apps out there. You may want to check out some of the others available, but I really liked this one.

Enjoy the bounty of the season,

  1. I try to eat as local as I can too. Luckily we have a Farmer's market close by and I grow a lot of our herbs and vegetables. Looks like a great app!

    1. We don't have anything close by even a grocery store is 20 minutes away. We do grow a vegetable garden but we don't really get anything until August. That is great that you have a market close by it keeps you in season without having to try.

  2. I'm going to look into that app! Your meals this week sound wonderful Diane.

    1. Thanks Adelina... it's a fun and helpful app.

  3. Thanks for the tip on this app. I actually saw this in Better Homes and Gardens this month and have been meaning to download it. I'll check it out.

    1. Glad to hear it is getting big press. I really find it useful.

  4. I love all of these menu plans that I see! I really need to do this but I'm so random at what I make. I get an idea and I have to do it the same day!

Hope you have a wonderful week, Diane! We start our mini vacation on Thursday. We are going to the Keys. I can't wait!

    1. Have fun... you must make a lot of trips to the grocery store.

  5. We try to eat seasonally too. We are lucky to have several farmers markets within just a few miles. This year I have discovered several new goodies, including sorrel.

    1. Thats fantastic Keri, it's so great to hear about more and more people eating locally and in season.
