Asparagus with Fig Balsamic Vinegar

How do I know it is Spring? My grocery store is bursting with asparagus. The word comes from the Greek asparagos meaning a shoot or sprout... and isn't that what Spring is all about? Plants finally shooting up from the thawed earth.

Asparagus was traditionally served at French weddings with the belief that it has aphrodisiac properties... I'm not so sure about that belief?

The Greeks used it as cure all for everything from tooth aches to heart disease. I don't doubt asparagus is healthy, and maybe along with a diet that includes many other fruits and vegetables you might heal yourself of all kinds of aliments.

But for now... I eat asparagus in the Spring because it tastes amazing...
