Sunday Gravy: Italian Red Meat Sauce

Winter is the time of year to cook up comforting foods covered in cream sauces, cheese, and red sauce. All the fruits and vegetables that you jarred in the Fall put them in your savory dishes now. Citrus fruits are in season, so it's nice to brighten up dishes with orange & lemon flavor too. Here are some of my family's favorite winter meals. Many of these dishes we will be eating this week.

  1. Diane,
The meat gravy was an every Sunday event while I was growing up. It was used the rest of the week. My Father used to want pasta six days a week. Hope you had a great Valentine's Day.

    1. Thanks Annamaria,
I grew up eating gravy every Sunday too... All day we would dip bread into while it simmered...commenting about the seasoning. My dad could eat pasta every day too... and meat, lots of meat.

  2. Dear Diane, Your Italian meat sauce looks wonderful. So many beautiful and delicious meals. With Lent now upon us, I feel hopeful that Spring is just around the corner, though I think we have a few more weeks of comfort food until then.
My favorite part about the winter are all the citrus fruits. I especially love tangerines, and they are healthy snack. I am always using oranges in something these days. Wishing you a relaxing weekend. Blessings dear, Catherine xo

    1. I'm feeling the same way. I'm already feeling like I want to lighten up on the food but the kids still want heavy winter stuff.

  3. All the dishes look delicious, but the stew looks the best! I love stews when it's cold outside and tonight we have freezing temperatures!
